Cet hôtel particulier fut édifié par Bargat à la fin du XVIIIe siècle pour le Marquis Etienne Phillippe de Villaines, chef de brigade des gardes du corps du Roi, maréchal des camps et armées en 1790.

Acheté par la Municipalité en 1807, il abrita le collège de La Châtre jusqu'en 1954. Depuis, il est le siège de la bibliothèque, riche de 30 000 volumes.

This mansion was built by Bargat in the late eighteenth century for the Marquis Etienne Phillippe de Villaines, brigade chief of the King's bodyguards, marshal of the camps and armies in 1790.


Purchased by the Municipality in 1807, it housed the college of La Châtre until 1954. Since then, it housed the library, with a collection of 30,000 volumes. (Marker Number 1.)
